(Don’t laugh, this is my first cake decorating project)

How many of you are twilightfans? Now I haven’t read the books but I love the storyline and the characters (Team Jacob!). I’m so happy New Moon is out I can’t wait to see it! You see I’m the type of girl who likes to see mega movies a few weeks after they come out, because the crowd dies down , the theater isn’t as packed, and Ican sit where ever I want, as apposed to standing in a long line, sitting in a crowded theater , 9 inches from the speaker going deaf. But back to the movie, from the trailers, it looks thrilling and, very action packed, which I love. For those of you who’ve seen the first trailer(which is like the whole world), remember when they are celebrating Bella’s birthday at the Cullen’s house? The giant elaborate cake the Bella says can feed 50? That got me to thinking. Now I don’t have the oven capacity or the time to bake a giant cake like that yet . I’m not the Ace of Cakes, to decorate and beautiful design like that yet.But I can make something with love in the Twilight spirit . Sohere’s my New Moon cake. It’s a rich and moist Dark chocolate square cake, covered in a blanket of creamy white vanilla icing, with the words New Moon,  written in my best  handwriting. It was baked with love, made for my friends. Thanks.2009_1122food00502009_1122food0044

    What you will need:

1 box of  Chocolate cake mix and all the ingredients it call for

1 1/2 cups of vanilla icing divided

3/4 tablespoon of black food coloring divided

Step1: Make the chocolate cake according to the directions ( for easy takeout, line the cake pan with wax paper) . Mean while take 1/2 cup of vanilla icing and add the black food coloring. Add that to a sandwich bag and cut off a small portion of the tip. It should turn out to be a deep, black color, not a dark gray.

Step 2: Let the cake cool COMPLETELY, and remove from pan. Be very careful, you don’t want the cake to break on you.

Step 3: Most likely the cake will have a dome on top so you want to take a bread knife and cut off just that part. Turn the cake upside down and lovingly spread the white vanilla icing on all sides. Using your best cursive or print (which ever you prefer), you could do like me and say  New Moon and draw an outline of a crescent moon, or draw you own creative message! Just have fun and enjoy!
