Bacon wrapped hot dog

  • On every street corner, in downtown Los Angeles there is at least one vendor selling bacon wrapped hot dogs. So every time my mom and I go shopping there, the smell of onions, bell peppers grilling with sizzling hot dogs wrapped in a spiral blanket of  bacon, engulfs me, and I’m so tempted to by one, but my mom tells me no because we don’t know how sanitary the vendors are, or how the excess salt will affect me. So when we’re done shopping we run to the store, pick up some low sodium kosher hot dogs,  low sodium bacon, whole wheat buns, combine it with the vegetables we have at home and make it ourselves. Hope you enjoy the recipe!

    Ingredients:

4 kosher hot dogs (low sodium)

4 strips of low sodium bacon

1  1/2 cups of sliced onion

1 medium clove of garlic sliced

1/3 cup of yellow bell pepper

1/3 cup of   red bell pepper

4 whole wheat hot dog buns( regular is fine)

Step 1: Par boil hot dogs for about 2-4 minutes. Meanwhile saute onions and bell pepper. When mixture starts to brown, stir in garlic, turn down heat, cover and cook on very low heat.

Step 2: Remove hot dogs from water, and set aside on plate and pat dry with paper towels. When they are cool enough to handle wrap in bacon, and grill until bacon is crispy. Assemble hot dogs and serve with your favorite condiments.
